Ladies of the Fjord
Olbrich Gardens 3330 Atwood Ave., Madison, Wisconsin 53714
press release: Enjoy a winter Sunday at Olbrich with musical performances in our Evjue Commons. All Winter Concerts are traditional theater-style seating. In 2018, all of Olbrich's Winter Concerts will require a $2 admission fee per person (Children 5 & under are free). In support of Madison’s local musicians the concert performance fees have been increased to match standard rates. An admission fee becomes necessary to maintain this series as a fundraiser for the Gardens. Your contributions are greatly appreciated!
Ladies of the Fjord is a trio composed of Carlyce Skjervem, Lora Lee, and Karen Rebholz. We play Norwegian Hardanger Fiddles, the national instrument of Norway. Our music consists of bygdedans (country dances) that evolved in the isolated valleys of Southern Norway, primarily the springer, halling, and gangar. We also play tunes used in traditional Norwegian weddings, and gamaldans (couples dance music) from Europe that became popular in Norway in the 1800's. Karen Rebholz, who also builds these beautiful instruments, will have a display of hardanger fiddles and their construction.
