Latino Americans: 500 Years of History

The public is invited to the opening reception for the program series Latino Americans: 500 Years of History at the Verona Public Library on Thursday evening, August 20.
The evening begins at 6 p.m. with Savor the Flavors of Latin Cuisines. Local restaurants will offer a tempting taste of Latin cooking. Free food samples will be available, while supplies last.
From 7 to 8 p.m., enjoy Cris Plata in Concert. Born in south Texas and the son of migrant workers, the multi-talented Plata is a singer/songwriter, musician, and storyteller. His repertoire reflects his Mexican heritage and includes Norteno, conjunto, and ranchera music.
Latino Americans: 500 Years of History supports the American public’s exploration of the rich and varied history and experiences of Latinos, who have helped shape the United States over the last five centuries and who have become, with more than 50 million people, the country’s largest minority group.
Latino Americans: 500 Years of History has been made possible through a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association. Local funding provided by Beyond the Page. Community partners include the Friends of the Verona Public Library, Verona Area Chamber of Commerce, Wisconsin Public Television, and Latino Chamber of Commerce of Dane County.
