The Lone Bellow
Mere weeks after the release of the trio’s sixth album, What A Time To Be Alive, The Lone Bellow makes a stop in Madison. The first incarnation of this upbeat album — loaded with the band's “signature harmonies and anthemic indie folk turned up full,” according to Holler — was stolen from the band’s van while on tour (along with equipment, instruments and luggage), and it all had to be re-recorded. Here’s to a trauma-free tour and a memorable Madison stop. Peru-born Fabrizio, whose deep baritone suits his brand of haunting Americana/folk, opens.
media release: Acclaimed indie/folk trio The Lone Bellow have a new album coming out on February 13 called What A Time To Be Alive. Their national headline tour kicks off immediately after its release and they’ll be performing in Madison on March 5 at Majestic Theatre.
What a Time to be Alive was recorded in Muscle Shoals and was written/recorded collaboratively for the first time with the band’s full touring ensemble (founding trio Zach Williams, Brian Elmquist, and Kanene Pipkin along with drummer Julian Dorio and multi-instrumentalist Tyler Geertsma). It’s their strongest collection of songs to date and fully captures the energy and firepower of their acclaimed live shows.
The first incarnation of this album was stolen from their van while on tour, along with their equipment, instruments, and luggage (ultimately forcing them to re-record the whole album) and how their diehard fans stepped in and helped them get back on their feet within a matter of hours. Kanene summed it up perfectly by saying, “When something like that happens and you realize how much the art you’re creating means to other people, it’s very humbling, but it’s also very motivating. It pushed us to be even more honest and brave and present with our music and our fans.” The community that The Lone Bellow has created amongst their fans is truly impressive and inspiring, and this album is a further testament to the enduring bonds their music has forged, both on the stage and in the audience.
SINGLES:
The new songs have already been met with press acclaim from Paste, Holler (“Mesmerizing, with the band's signature harmonies and anthemic indie folk turned up full.”), The Bluegrass Situation ("an expansive, resplendent sound that certainly sounds like The Lone Bellow, but steeped in the Shoals”), No Depression (“Harmony-rich”), and MXDWN among many others.
“Common Folk” and “I Did It For Love” are both impacting at radio and earning spins nationwide. Their continued success at radio follows 2022’s critically acclaimed Love Songs for Losers, featuring “Honey,” which reached the Top 10 on AAA-radio’s Most Played Songs of 2023.
