Octagon Barn, Spring Green E4350 Horseshoe Road, Spring Green, Wisconsin 53588
media release: The Morrill Lecture Series is proud to present: An evening with Luis Alberto Urrea, on Monday, September 28 at 6:30pm, at the Octagon Barn, E4350 Horseshoe Rd., Spring Green.
Acclaimed author Luis Alberto Urrea—bilingual poet, novelist, and essayist—will explore themes of family, immigration, love, loss, and the connections that unite us. This unforgettable event will feature Luis sharing stories from his life and work, along with dramatic readings of his writing by American Players Theatre actors Phoebe Gonzalez and Sam Luis Massaro.
“This season, we are exploring how to stay optimistic and engaged while we learn more about difficult topics by focusing on two goals: growing knowledge and critical thinking around important topics, along with sharing a spirit of optimism and hope – that we all can make a difference in our communities,” said Stef Morrill Kerckhoff, founder of the Morrill Lecture Series.
Luis Alberto Urrea uses his “dual-culture life experiences to explore greater themes of love, loss, and triumph” through a variety of topics, including immigration and his family. Recognized as a border writer, he is more interested in bridges than borders. That philosophy aligns with the purpose of the Morrill Lecture Series to foster community and a sense of connectedness and enables participants of all ages to expand their knowledge and critical thinking on important topics.
This event will also include performances by two American Players Theater actors, Phoebe González and Sam Luis Massaro, reading Urrea’s work.
“We’re very excited to have this event in our community at this time, said Morrill Kerckhoff, Our hope is that you will leave our events feeling like there is….well, hope!”
This event is free and unticketed. The event will conclude with dessert and conversation.
This project is funded in part, by a grant from Sauk County Economic Development, Arts and Culture Committee, a Committee of the Sauk County Board of Supervisors and the Wisconsin Arts Board. Thank you to Roxane Bartelt for her generous donation in memory of Steve Platteter.
