Feb. 7 update from Madison's Central Business Improvement District: Current weather forecasts during tomorrow’s Lunar New Year Celebration in Peace Park are calling for some combination of rain/freezing rain/sleet or snow. In order to protect the safety of the Zhong Yi Kung Fu Association acrobatic performers, and to preserve their culturally significant Lion Dance costumes, we need to cancel this event. We are making this difficult decision now, with hopes of preventing any inconvenience for our Downtown visitors and guests tomorrow.
Thank you in advance for your understanding, and we look forward to seeing you soon at upcoming Downtown events!
Madison Redditors, at least, believe there have already been fireworks booming on Lake Mendota in celebration of the Lunar New Year. If you missed that, downtown Madison will make up for it with this celebration, including traditional Chinese lion dancing by Zhong Yi Kung Fu Association — thought to bring luck in the New Year, and we are definitely going to need it. Bring on those dancing lions. Visitors are encouraged to check out foods from the State Street area’s many Asian restaurants, including: Asian Kitchen, Chen’s Dumpling House, Hot Pot 608, Apex Grill, Eat Xpress, Fugu, Kung Fu Tea, Le C’s Patisserie & Tea House, Mad Seafood Boiler, Dagu Rice Noodles, Ruyi Hand Pulled Noodle, Sol’s on the Square, Taiwan Little Eats, Taste of Sichuan, Yume Sushi, Teamoji, and more.
media release: Madison’s Central Business Improvement District (BID) welcomes the entire community to celebrate the Lunar New Year in Downtown Madison! Experience traditional Chinese Lion Dancing and feed the lions to bring luck in the New Year. Downtown Madison is home to more than two dozen Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) owned and operated businesses, with many of them offering prepared specials and hosting blessings at their locations.
Madison’s Central BID is proud to have the Zhong Yi Kung Fu Association returning to perform traditional Lion Dancing on the stage at Lisa Link Peace Park (452 State Street). The Association provides a comprehensive study of Chinese martial arts. Members of the school have competed regionally, nationally, and internationally.
Immediately following the Lion Dance in the park, Association members will move on to provide blessings at select locations around downtown. Everyone is invited to come see the dance, feed the lions, shop and enjoy delicious food from our AAPI businesses, including: Asian Kitchen, Chen’s Dumpling House, Hot Pot 608, Apex Grill, Eat Xpress, Fugu, Kung Fu Tea, Le C’s Patisserie & Tea House, Mad Seafood Boiler, Madison Dagu Rice Noodles, Ruyi Hand Pulled Noodle, Sol’s on the Square, Taiwan Little Eats, Taste of Sichuan, Yume Sushi, Teamoji, Jinji Jing Cha, Izakara Kuroyama, So Gung Dong Tofu & BBQ, J&P Fresh Market, So Simple Shop, Mochi, A8 China, Little Palace, Rising Sons, Sushi Express and Himal Chuli.
Celebrate Lunar New Year in Downtown Madison! It’s a fun, safe way to shop and enjoy downtown while celebrating AAPI culture and heritage.
