This annual festival highlights more than 50 local and nationally known women in the arts, this year following the theme of “REIMAGINE.” The fest kicks off with a panel discussion of art and heritage (May 31, A+LL), followed by a masterclass with rock star June Millington and a screening of the film Fanny: The Right to Rock (June 1, Goodman Community Center), and chamber music concerts featuring the works of women composers as well as a chamber music play (June 2-4, Hamel Music Center and A+LL,). media release: LunART continues its mission of supporting, inspiring, promoting and celebrating women in the arts at its 2023 LunART Festival: REIMAGINE, which takes place from Wednesday, May 31, through Sunday, June 4. The 2023 season brings six events to three venues in the Madison area, providing accessible, high-quality, engaging concerts and events with diverse programming from various arts fields.
This season, the festival will showcase more than 50 artists, including many familiar local artists and performers as well as guest artists from around the country and the world. Guests will experience gala concerts, engaging discussions, educational sessions, abundant inspiration and more!

Art & Heritage Panel Discussion, 7 p.m., Arts + Literature Laboratory: Panelists will explore how heritage informs and influences their art. Panelists: June Millington (rock musician), Dorothy Chang (composer), Rachel Werner (writer and entrepreneur). Moderator: Suzan Kurry. Free.
Thursday, June 1
A Day with Rock Legend June Millington, at Goodman Community Center: June Millington is a guitarist, songwriter, producer, educator and actress who co-founded the all-female rock group Fanny
- Masterclass with June Millington, 4-6:30 p.m.: Limited to six young women guitarists, followed by a mini concert. $25 per performer; $10 per observer.
- Film screening of “Fanny: The Right to Rock,” 7 p.m.: Chronicles the inception of the rock band and the trials and tribulations of a pioneering race- and gender-defying all-female band in the '70s. Followed by Q&A. $10, general admission
Friday, June 2
Gala Chamber Music Concert, 7:30 p.m., Hamel Music Center, Collins Hall: This thrilling program will showcase a tapestry of diverse chamber works for winds, strings, piano voice and percussion, including world and US premieres. Composers: Dorothy Chang, Jiyoun Chung, Ana Leira Camero, Midori Larsen, Edna Alejandra Longoria, Mélanie Bonis, Linda Tutas Haugen, Elizabeth Alexander. $30 general; $15 students.
Saturday, June 3
NADIA: Giving voice to the “most influential teacher since Socrates, a chamber music play written by Mina Fisher, 7:30 p.m., Hamel Music Center, Collins Hall: In a mesmerizing one-woman tour-de-force marrying chamber music with theater, actress/singer Adriana Zabala explores the memories and secrets behind the legendary and charismatic music teacher, Nadia Boulanger. Artists: Adriana Zabala (mezzo-soprano), Thomas Kasdorf (piano), Kangwon Lee Kim (violin), James Waldo (cello). $30 general; $15 students.
Sunday, June 4
Composers Hub Spotlight, Chamber Music Concert, 2:30 p.m., Arts + Literature Laboratory: Returning for its fourth season! Six talented composers will participate in masterclasses and private composition lessons with Composer-in-Residence Dorothy Chang, partake in lectures and a presentation by Elizabeth Russell and Beth Larson, as well as workshop their music with festival musicians. Composers: Alison Ogden (flute, oboe, clarinet), Claire Cope (string quartet), Inna Onofrei (string quartet), Lauren Conklin (string quartet), Magdalena Gorwa (alto flute, horn, violin, cello, percussion), Taylor Zickefoose (baritone, piano). Reception to follow. Free.
Commemorative Print: LunART has commissioned Madison artist Amira Caire to create a commemorative artwork for the 2023 season. Prints will be available for sale online and at the festival.
