This is an amazing FREE Seminar and Jazz Performance by Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra Musician Victor Goines and Legendary New Orleans Jazz Drummer, Herlin Riley. They will be In Madison doing a masterclass and mini concert kicking off the Madison Jazz Jam. The Seminar will be from 5-6 PM, and Mini Concert & Jam following, Monday, August 9, at COPA, 2841 Index Road, Fitchburg, WI. Map
COPA stands for Community Organizations Promoting the Arts, and is a relatively new facility being developed in Fitchburg.
Schedule for the evening: 5:00-6:00 PM: FREE Jazz Performance Master Class. Victor Goines and Herlin Riley will share their perspectives on:
- What it means to be an individually unique musician.
- What each musician brings to the music.
- How to create great ensemble playing with other musicians.
- The artistry of the melody, a solo and musical accompaniment.
- Groove.
Bring your prepared questions. Victor and Herlin like to have dialogue and be "in the moment.” 6:00-6:30 PM, Goines & Riley mini-concert.
6:30-9:00 PM, Open Jam, featuring Johannes Wallman, pianist and Director of Jazz Studies at UW-Madison, and Laurie Lang, bassist, and community jazz educator.
