press release: Auditions for Richard the Second, produced by Madison Shakespeare Company in cooperation with Broom Street Theater
For God’s sake, let us sit upon the ground
And tell sad stories of the death of kings…
Directed by Christopher William Wolter
Madison Shakespeare Company launches the Henriad with Shakespeare’s most lyrical history. This exploration of rulership, identity and consent challenges us to examine the origins of authority and political power. Richard II will be performed February 17-March 11 at Broom Street Theater.
Auditions for Madison Shakespeare Company’s production of Richard the Second will be held October 13-14 from 6:00-9:00pm, with callbacks October 15 from 6:00-9:00pm and October 16 from 6:00-9:00pm (if necessary) at
Wil-Mar Neighborhood Center
Mendota Room
953 Jenifer St
Madison, WI
Candidates must pre-register to present a prepared soliloquy/monologue of up to two minutes in length from a play by William Shakespeare or fellow Early Modern playwrights such as Christopher Marlowe or Ben Jonson. Memorization is strongly encouraged but not required. Register for a five-minute audition slot at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0c4eaaaa2fabfd0-auditions
Callbacks will be held October 15 at 6:00-9:00pm, and October 16 at 6:00-9:00pm if necessary.

The director will cast 7-10 performers to play all roles in this original adaptation. All roles are available and will be cast gender-blind. We strongly encourage actors of all physical types and ages to audition. No role is limited by gender, age, race or body type.
Limited rehearsal, including initial table work and movement workshops, may be scheduled for mid-December. The full rehearsal schedule will begin in earnest January 2, 2017, though we may be able to work around holiday plans.
