Laura Jackson Conducts Tchaikovsky
He was plagued by self-doubt and had abandoned his music. But when inspired to compose again, Sergei Rachmaninoff wrote the music that would make him immortal. Joyce Yang plays the Second Piano Concerto. “Vivid and beautiful playing,” proclaims The New York Times. The concert begins with The Block, a bold work from a bold voice of our time, Carlos Simon. And to close, the Symphony No. 4 of Tchaikovsky, music that would express the composer’s inner anguish and romantic passions in a way no music had ever dared to.
