media release: Madison Vegan Fest’s mission is to bring people together to enjoy delicious vegan food, hear from engaging speakers, and explore ways to live more compassionately and sustainably.
The fest will be held on Saturday, September 28th, from 11am to 5pm, at Lunney Lake Farm County Park. We expect to have about six speakers and around 15 savory and sweet food vendors, plus around 30-40 exhibiting businesses, non-profits, and farm sanctuaries.
This year, we are excited to be flying in two speakers from Virginia and one from Ohio, including several others local to Wisconsin. Our keynote speaker, John Oberg, is known for his advocacy for animals through his substantial social media following, including 120,000 followers on Twitter/X.
This year, as with last year, we'll be running a free bus shuttle from the campus area of Madison down to Lunney Lake Farm County Park. The shuttle will originate at the Memorial Union on 800 Langdon Street and stop at 23 N Pinckney St on its way to 4268 Libbey Rd. It will run continuously from 11am to 5 pm during the fest.
Since its beginnings in 2011 in the Goodman Community Center, the fest has gone through many iterations. It eventually changed venues to the Alliant Energy Center and Madison College before the pandemic canceled it for two years. For the first time, it returned to Lunney Lake Farm County Park as an outdoor event in 2022, and it's drawn around 3,000-4,000 attendees each year since.
The fest is entirely free and run by an all-volunteer organizing committee. It's supported by sponsorships and the fees food vendors and exhibitors pay to attend the event. We welcome all to attend who are interested in learning more about a plant-based diet and lifestyle.
