Kenny Reichert
Guitarist-composer Kenny Reichert is a prolific and inventive collaborator, the breadth of which will be ably displayed each Saturday in May during a residency hosted by BlueStem Jazz. The Wisconsin native will play electric guitar with five quite different ensembles. The residency kicks off with trios: Prairie Grass (May 2), with longtime collaborators bassist Ethan Philion and drummer Devin Drobka; Moldovest (May 9), with vocalist Ana Everling and bassist John Christensen, makes its debut; and organ trio Righteous Rooster (May 16). Colours (May 23), a quintet that came together from a previous residency, and Twin Cities Quartet (May 30) are both ensembles that blend composed material with plenty of space for improvisation.

Moldovest brings together Chicago-based Moldovan vocalist Ana Everling, Madison-based bassist John Christensen, and guitarist Kenny Reichert in a new collaborative project. Reichert has been composing new material with their distinct musical voices in mind, drawing together Eastern European lyricism, modern jazz language, and open-ended improvisation. This performance marks the first presentation of the project and the beginning of what is intended to grow into a long-term creative collaboration.
Letters From The Road is a five-week residency presented by guitarist and composer Kenny Reichert featuring a different ensemble each night. The series highlights Reichert’s original music written during years of touring across Europe and North America, with each performance bringing together collaborators who have shaped his musical life along the way. The result is a rotating cast of artists and projects that reflect friendship, travel, and shared musical history.
