press release: Marƶeń is pleased to present the artwork of Molly Carter and Jason Ruhl from May 6, 2016 through July 1, 2016 at 2345 Atwood Avenue Madison, WI. The artist reception will be held on May 6 from 5:00-9:00pm in participation with MMoCA Gallery Night. Marzen will host an artist talk at 7pm and refreshments will be provided by Bunky’s Catering.
This exhibition may be a little peculiar, delightfully unexpected, and executed with pristine simplicity. Both Jason Ruhl and Molly Carter have unique reductive processes in the way they work. Whether in a computer, with a blade or a pencil to paper, they distill their subjects and reincorporate them into contemplative, spacious compositions.
Carter received an MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in Fiber and Material Studies and a BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute. Her mixed-media work has been exhibited nationally at museums and galleries including Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, Frye Art Museum, Kohler Art Center, Art Basel Miami (with Fleur Gallery, Chicago), and the NIU Art Museum. She lives and works in Rockford, Illinois and serves as Adjunct Faculty at Rock Valley College.
Jason Ruhl works primarily in print-based media, often cutting and collaging his prints. He received his MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his BFA from Minnesota State University, Mankato. His work has been included in group exhibitions nationally and internationally in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Venice, and Berlin, among others. He currently lives in Madison, WI where he is a Master Printer at Tandem Press.
Marƶeń is conveniently located in the lovely Atwood Avenue neighborhood at 2345 Atwood Ave. Our hours are Tuesday-Friday 11:00am-5:00pm and Saturday 12:00pm-4:00pm. We look forward to seeing you!
