media release: MYArts will celebrate the launch of Curiosity Expressed, a visual arts collection featuring the work of award-winning photographer, author, and educator Nancy Rich, with a public exhibition opening on Saturday, October 17, 2026.
The event will welcome the community to MYArts for an opportunity to experience Rich’s photography and meet the artist.
Reception begins at 4:00 p.m., with opening remarks at 4:30 p.m. Light refreshments and snacks will be provided. The event is free and open to all ages.
Curiosity Expressed reflects MYArts’ mission to serve as home to the Children’s Theater of Madison and Madison Youth Choirs and ensure opportunities for young people to express themselves artistically. This exhibition creates an additional opportunity for young people to encounter art, explore new perspectives, and discover their own creative potential.
Nancy Rich: Seeing the World Through a Different Lens
Nancy Rich’s photography invites the audience to see familiar and novel subjects in striking ways. Her diverse body of work ranges from floating pieces of colored glass, to abstract sea sculptures, colorful window reflections, nautical themes, and people, places, and objects from around the world.
Rich’s relationship with photography began when she received a Kodak Brownie camera on her seventh birthday. Her passion eventually led to the publication of Afloat on the Tide in 2009, a photography book documenting small wooden rowboats along the Northeast Atlantic coastline.
Paralleling her artistic career, Rich spent 40 years working with elementary, middle, and high school students as an educator and school administrator. Her connection to Madison, her lifelong passion for the arts, and her commitment to young people make MYArts a particularly meaningful home for her work.
Nancy has donated a major portion of her photography collection to MYArts with the hope that it will encourage young people to be curious and find ways to express themselves through the arts.
“I hope that the photographs my husband Simon Bunyard and I are sharing with MYArts help nudge the children here to be curious and further expand their horizons,” said Rich. “We want them to be encouraged to take new and fun steps towards expressing their unique selves artistically.”
Through Curiosity Expressed, MYArts encourages young people to look closely, ask questions, see things differently, and find inspiration for their own artistic expression.
“Art, whether it be in the visual arts, theatre, or music, is an extraordinary venue for students to learn, explore, and express themselves,” said Rich.
