For three decades Natty Nation has built a following far beyond Madison with their adventurous brand of reggae music, which pulls influences from many genres but always maintains its strong roots reggae core. For many years the band has been hosting an annual concert honoring the birth of Bob Marley; 2025 marks what would have been Marley’s 80th birthday. For this year's tribute Natty Nation is once again joined by guest bassist Michael “Ras Amerlock” McCutcheon; the lineup also includes Polyrhythmic Roots and DJ FRP of Tropical Riddims on WORT-FM.
media release:
The iconic reggae sounds of Natty Nation are returning to Madison, Wisconsin, for the highly anticipated Bob Marley Birthday Bash on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at High Noon Saloon. This special night will pay tribute to the legendary Bob Marley, focusing on the powerful, rebellious anthems that made him a voice of resistance, freedom, and unity.
Known for their high-energy performances and deep respect for reggae tradition, Natty Nation will highlight songs from Bob Marley's catalog that reflect his rebellious spirit and his commitment to challenging social injustices. Tracks like “Get Up, Stand Up,” “Rebel Music,” and “Burnin’ and Lootin’” are at the core of the band's performance, showcasing Marley's unwavering fight for equality, peace, and human rights.
Natty Nation’s tribute goes beyond just playing Bob Marley’s music—it’s about channeling the same energy, activism, and boldness that Marley infused into his songs. With their signature sound, the band will not only honor Marley’s legacy but also bring a fresh perspective to the messages of resistance and resilience that have resonated with generations.
For the third year Natty Nation has enlisted the skills of Milwaukee musician Michael “Ras Amerlock” McCutcheon on bass. This gives JAH Boogie, Natty’s lead singer and bassist, a chance to focus on the vocals. They of course are joined by drummer Paule Willis, keyboardist & backing vocalist Aaron Konkol, and Nick Czar on guitar and backing vocals.
The evening will kick off at 7:00 PM with DJ FRP, spinning reggae, dub, and dancehall tunes to set the vibe for the night ahead. Polyrhythmic Roots, who describe themselves as instrumental reggae in a jazz format, will take the stage for a short set just before Natty Nation. Their vibrant performance will lead into Natty Nation’s headlining show, promising a seamless transition between two fantastic live acts.
Fans can expect a powerful evening filled with messages of empowerment, unity, and solidarity, all wrapped up in Natty Nation’s signature reggae rhythms. Whether you're a longtime Marley fan or new to his music, this celebration will inspire and energize, staying true to the heart of Bob Marley's mission.
