press release:
Clean, Honest Government Requires a Strong Civil Service
Repeal Act 150! Save Wisconsin Civil Service!
Join this lively gathering to mark the day in 1905 when Wisconsin Civil Service was born. We can save Wisconsin Civil Service, and the first step is to keep questioning the current illegitimate attempt to kill it. Join us and the Forward! Marching Band at the Capitol on the 17th. Come dressed for a wake, or wear your union swag!
The Senate Labor & Government Reform Committee has scheduled a public hearing to discuss the implementation of Act 150 on June 22 but have limited it to invited speakers only. We reject all such efforts to suppress public input that have characterized the whole process of passing this law. Instead of studying the issue beforehand, the state rushed through an ill-considered law and are in no position to evaluate it now. We do not accept this law which will bring corruption and cronyism to public agencies.
We recognize the attacks on Civil Service as linked to other anti-democratic moves including the dismantling of the GAB, new protections for dark money in Wisconsin's elections, and efforts to suppress the vote. Wisconsin's people have faced threats like this in the past and have defeated them. Join us to celebrate clean government and a strong tradition of Wisconsin Civil Service on June 17!
