press release: Monona Public Library is participating for the first time in MMoCA’s Gallery Night event on Friday, May 6th from 5pm to 9pm. The Gallery Night will be held as a part of the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art’s bi-annual event bringing together galleries, businesses, and community spaces to highlight local art. This free event will include live music by Phoebe & the Intervals, light refreshments, and a short artist talk. Monona Public Library’s first annual Gallery Night will be curated by Meghan Blake-Horst, Owner of Absolutely Art, who has provided local, gallery quality art to the library for several years.
The featured art will include paintings from Artworking’s abstract artists Nikki Ordaz and Rachel Geisinger, and indigo-dyed murals from natural fabric artist Jennifer Falkowski. Ms. Falkowski, founder of the Fearless Crafters program at the Monona Public Library, will also give a brief talk on natural indigo dying. “The richness and brilliant colors of Indigo dye are unlike any other, and the process, chemistry and history are equally rich. I love introducing people to this unique medium,” says Ms. Falkowski.
The library’s sweeping ceilings and walls of windows make it an ideal place to host a Gallery Night event. “The Monona Public Library is a wonderful community asset that supports local artists and organizations. It is exciting to draw attention to the diversity of activities and exhibits that happen at this special place during an iconic Madison Area event such as Gallery Night,” says Ms. Blake-Horst.
