No Name String Band with the crew who recorded their album "Anytime," at Stoughton Opera House.
press release: Admission is FREE, performance starts at 8pm
The No Name String Band announces their new CD, Anytime, their second full album and first with the current, seven-member configuration. Recorded at the historic Stoughton Opera House, Anytime introduces six new original tunes written in their characteristic new time/neo-traditional style, as well as 11 tracks of traditional fiddle tunes played with the same unique spin.
In addition, a banjo, fiddle and guitar side-project CD, Tunesdays with More Ed Haley, is also now available. Tunesdays takes a more direct approach, and sticks to traditional, fiddle-led dance tunes.
The No Name String Band will be hosting a CD release party with a live performance at the Arts & Literature Laboratory (2021 Winnebago St., Madison) on Thursday, June 15. The free performance begins at 8:00pm, followed by a meet and greet, and the opportunity to purchase the new CDs. The show will feature mostly original material, with some 3-piece traditional selections from Tunesdays.
The No Name String Band music collective distills the heart of old time fiddle music, jazz/funk improvisation, Latin rhythms – with a dram of classical discipline – into their uniquely new time sound. As a collective, the NNSB shows the flexibility to play true to tradition, especially in smaller configurations, or get funky as more pieces are added to the puzzle. A wider picture emerges when the full compliment of one or two fiddles, banjos, and guitars, along with upright and percussion are on hand.
The NNSB has a monthly, second-Saturday gig at the Alchemy Cafe, and you can find them all over town throughout the summer, including the Dane County Farmer’s Market, Edgewater and Marquette Waterfront fest. For booking and show info, or to find their new CDs, visit nonamestringband.com.
