press release: New Orleans-based indie and contemporary jazz trio Nutria will appear at the North Street Cabaret as a part of their March tour through the Midwest.
This will be Nutria's third tour through the Midwest, following successful Midwest tours in May 2016 and February 2017, as well as a tour through the East Coast in August 2017, taking them as far as Washington, DC, Mount Desert Island, Maine, and Burlington, VT playing concert halls, jazz clubs, and art centers, including a premiere performance at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, before returning home to New Orleans.
Nutria is fresh off of a wildly successful collaboration with New Orleans' only professional ballet company, the Marigny Opera Ballet, which featured the group performing a reprise of their commissioned composition "Wary Heat" during January 2018's "Jazz Ballets" program. The piece premiered to rave reviews in 2017 in the company's first jazz collaboration, "The Art Of Jazz."
On this tour, Nutria will be promoting their new album "Call to the Air," which will be released on Breakfast 4 Dinner Records (New Orleans,). Recorded at Bear America Records by Carson Thielen (ofThe Kid Carsons), the album was mixed and mastered by Jeff Albert of Breakfast 4 Dinner Records. Louisiana-based artist Terry Grow provides stunning album art.
Its members are all active as performers on the New Orleans music scene; they have shared club and festival stages near and far alongside mainstays of the New Orleans scene including the Revelers, Matt Lemmler, Andrew Duhon, Ed Petersen, Leyla McCalla, Sarah Quintana, Maggie Koerner, and local favorites Los Poboycitos, among many others.
