Hands On History
media release: Registration is now open for October’s Hands-on History program at the Driftless Historium (100 S 2nd Street in downtown Mount Horeb) for grades K through 4.
From the first loaded-down wagons hauling transplants from the East coast to the swaying ships who brought Norwegians, Swiss, Germans, Irish and other Europeans to this United States frontier, thousands of immigrants made Wisconsin their new home. October workshop participants will learn why so many made the decision to start new lives in a foreign place, and how they carried their beliefs, customs and foods with them—and helped shape the multi-cultural and vibrant America that we enjoy today.
Students will practice packing their trunks, discover the importance of letter-writing to help stay connected to those back home, hear about the freedoms that attracted immigrants to America, and more!
The workshops are planned and led by museum staff and experienced educators. Participation is absolutely FREE, due to a generous grant from the Mount Horeb Community Foundation—but capacity is limited to just twenty students per month and registration is required.
