Penelope Road
Atlanta’s Penelope Road manages to blur not only musical genres — soul, pop, indie rock — but also musical eras. This music could have found a home in any decade, beginning with the 1970s. No surprise, considering the band counts Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Hall & Oates, Paramore and Goose among its influences. Named after a street its members lived on while in college, Penelope Road calls their sound “stanky funky junk,” but we think they’re underselling themselves. With Harvey Street.
media release: Atlanta pop rock band Penelope Road shared a live rendition of the title track from their new Chance Encounter EP, released this past October via Warner Records. Recorded at Capricorn Studios in the band’s home state of Georgia, the performance offers a fresh, intimate take on one of the project’s standout moments.
The new live version arrives on the heels of Penelope Road’s cover of The Eagles’ “Lyin’ Eyes,” also recorded at the historic Capricorn Studios for The Recording Academy’s Reimagined series.
Together, these releases circle back to the essence of the Chance Encounter EP. With its romantic heart-on-sleeve lyrics, dynamic full-band grooves, and impeccably warm harmonies, the EP captures Penelope Road at a moment of creative clarity and emotional depth. The project underscores the palpable chemistry that has made them one of 2025’s most talked-about live acts.
Formed in Atlanta in 2022 while still in college, Penelope Road quickly built a grassroots following with their blend of rock, soul, and pop, rooted in impeccable musicianship and five-part harmonies. Drawing inspiration from icons like Steely Dan, Hall & Oates, and the Eagles, as well as contemporary boundary-pushers like Mk.gee, the band has earned praise from HITS Daily Double for their “organically soulful pop-rock” and “impeccable stacked harmonies”, and Creative Loafing Atlanta, which declared the band “in a league of their own.”
Stay tuned for much more from Penelope Road.
