media release: Longtime friends and celebrated singer-songwriters David Huckfelt (of The Pines) and Pieta Brown are hitting the road together this October for a string of concerts throughout the Midwest.
For his part, Huckfelt has just wrapped the 2nd Annual Water Is Life Festival for which he serves as artistic director. The festival, which benefits Winona LaDuke's nonprofit organization Honor the Earth, featured performances from Ani DiFranco, Indigo Girls, Keith Secola, Gaelynn Lea, and Huckfelt, among others. Also making special appearances were Gary Farmer and D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai of the hit series Reservation Dogs and model Quannah Chasinghorse. Over 5,000 fans, water protectors, and activists attended the festival, which was held in Duluth's Bayfront Festival Park.
Huckfelt's solo album, Room Enough, Time Enough, was released to wide and enthusiastic praise. It was recorded in Tucson and features a stunning array of collaborators including Keith Secola, Dave Simonett of Trampled By Turtles, Greg Brown, Jackie Bird, & members of Calexico.
Pieta Brown is recognized as one of modern Americana's true gems. In recent years seh has released multiple critically acclaimed albums, with much attention being paid not only to her distinct sound and style, but also the power of her singing and songwriting, including fan favorite, Paradise Outlaw which Bon Iver mastermind Justin Vernon called his “favorite recording made at our studio.”
Brown has toured North America with Mark Knopfler, and various regions of the U.S., Australia, and Canada with John Prine, Amos Lee, Brandi Carlisle, JJ Cale, Ani Difranco, Mavis Staples, and Calexico among others. She has co-written songs with and made recent guest appearances on albums by Calexico, Amos Lee, and Iris Dement. In recent years Pieta Brown’s music has been heard in various TV Shows and indie films including legendary director Wim Wenders' Everything Will Be Fine.
