Prairie Seed Collection Explained: The How-to’s of Seed Collecting
press release: Join Dane County Parks Natural Areas staff for an instructional workshop series on the how-to’s of prairie seed collection. Participants will learn to identify prairie seeds, determine when seeds are ripe, learn the basics of the drying and cleaning process, and develop skills for organizing a fun and efficient seed collection workday. Each week will build upon the next and a new set of species will be covered as waves of prairie plants ripen through the fall. Space is limited and preference will be given to volunteers who are able to attend most workshop dates and are interested in leading County volunteer seed collection events in the future. Participants are also encouraged to attend County led seed collection volunteer workdays which occur weekly through September and October.
