media release: Acclaimed Minneapolis rap maverick Prof uncovers the music video for his buzzing new single “Soupy,” featuring Cozz, from J. Cole’s Dreamville Records. Meanwhile, the track adorns his anxiously awaited sixth full-length album, HORSE, out April 14, 2023 via his own Stophouse Music Group. Pre-order/Pre-save HORSE—HERE.
In the black-and-white clip, Prof hops into his convertible accompanied by Cozz. The camera focuses on the two MCs during a slow and steady drive as they serve up quotable lines and quirky quips, “I’m turning to a logo.” Two ladies eventually hop in, only to later don ski masks and shotguns, and take down a score as the fellas wait. The stylized visual perfectly complements the track’s slick and smooth lyrical interplay.
Right out of the gate, it landed on influential Spotify playlists such as Alternative Hip Hop [923k followers] and Beats & Rhymes [414k followers].
Additionally, he reveals the dates for his North America headline run, The Workhorse Tour. Joining him on the road, the bill boasts Willie Wonka, Juice Lord, and Bayo.
Meanwhile, HORSE includes the fan favorite “Pack A Lunch” [feat. Redman], which has already piled up 1 million streams and counting. HORSE reaffirms Prof as a proven disruptor. The 14-track collection hinges on hilarious observations, hummable hooks, and hypnotic beats. It also boasts an A-list cohort of guests, including Method Man on “Subpar,” Cozz on “Soupy,” Mac Irv on “Tough Boy,” and Kevin Gates on the fan favorite “Devils Gate.” The latter has already amassed 2.7 million Spotify streams and 1.2 million YouTube views on the music video. Of “Devils Gate,” Dusty Organ declared, “Prof leads the single with punchy lyricism and bouncing rhythms, as the pair exude handfuls of confidence and flashy wordplay.”
Back in 2020, Prof captivated fans everywhere with Powderhorn Suites. It vaulted into the Top 3 of the Billboard Current Rap Albums Chart, Top 5 of the Top New Artists Albums Chart, and Top 15 of the Top Independent Albums Chart. He notably attracted over 160K YouTube subscribers in less than two years, gathered 140 million-plus streams out of nearly half-a-billion career streams so far, and played to packed houses with 30 shows coast-to-coast.
