media release: All are invited to the 13th Annual Pupusafest on Sunday, August 17, from 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm at 5725 Bittersweet Place in Madison, the backyard of Maggie Felker and Mike Byrd. This is a "friendraiser" and fundraiser for David's Educational Opportunity Fund (davidsedfund.org), founded in 2012 to honor the life of David Byrd-Felker, who disappeared in the Ecuadorian Amazon in 2002. Since then, David's Fund has provided scholarships to low-income students for their university education in Quito, and now has 25 graduates and 21 active students who form a community of support and civic engagement. Come learn more, and enjoy hot-off-the-grill pupusas made by David's friend, Maria García, as well as a performance by Atlas Improv, live music by Tom Waselchuk and Dark Gazebo, and a sale of Ecuadorian goods. Our in-country director, Rubén Altamirano, will also be there, as well as several important Ecuadorian business allies. Something for everyone! Just $25 for individuals and $35 for families!
