Pupusafest
WHAT TO DO: Pupusas for Quito
Sunday, Aug. 20, 5725 Bittersweet Place, 1-4:30 pm
Pupusafest is an annual fundraiser to benefit David's Educational Opportunity Fund, named for Madisonian David Byrd, who went missing while traveling in Ecuador in 2002. The nonprofit provides financial, educational and emotional support for low-income students in Quito, Ecuador. Atlas Improv and the band Dark Gazebo will perform — but the main event is the pupusas, a Central American street food similar to an empanada. Maria Carmina Garcia, a friend of the Byrd family, is traveling here from Ecuador specifically to make the signature dish. Suggested donation $25, $35 for families.
