press release: Recreational Rhythms, an all-day music festival, will celebrate 15 years of showcasing local music and supporting the community, Sunday, September 2, 2018, at The East Side Club of Madison. Running from Noon to 7 p.m., this year’s event includes music, food, beverages, local cause presentations, a cornhole tournament and a kids area, all on the shore of Lake Monona. Pricing is $15 for adults 21 and over (includes a free beer and commemorative gift), $5 for adults 18-20, and free for anyone under 18 (accompanied by an adult).
Beginning in 2004, Recreational Rhythms was created as a day to showcase area bands and promote community awareness, with proceeds going to charity. The eclectic 2018 lineup features: Don’t Mess with Cupid (An Otis Redding Tribute), Natty Nation, Wrenclaw, Mission (A Jerry Garcia Band Tribute), H2, and DJ $amroc. This year Safe Harbor Child Advocacy Center (safeharborhelpskids.org) along with the Madison East Side Sharks football club will be the beneficiaries of this year’s events. Safe Harbor provides a safe, child-friendly environment with immediate and ongoing advocacy for affected children and families who are victims or witnesses of crime.
“We’ve raised nearly $40,000 for 12 charities over the past 14 years,” co-founder of Recreational Rhythms Jonathan Hoel notes enthusiastically, “and our goal this anniversary year is to exceed anything we’ve raised in the past. We’re hoping our impact will be bigger than ever.”
The East Side Club of Madison (escmadison.com) will again host Recreational Rhythms, but the festival will return to its traditional Sunday afternoon schedule. The Club has long been the gathering place for Madisonians with views Madison’s skyline and the ideal place to enjoy great live music while raising money and awareness to help the local community.
