May's art show will be "Cicatrixes from Progress" by Richie Morales and Kae Taylor. It will be viewable from May 1 - 30. There will be a reception on May 15 from 5 - 8 pm.

press release: ”Hearts of Solidarity” is a new art show opening at Mother Fool’s Coffeehouse featuring the art of Richie Morales, a painter from Guatemala, and Kae Taylor, a local Madison area artist. The art opening is a fundraiser for the Workers’ Rights Center, a Madison area non-profit that assists low-income and immigrant workers’ fight for justice on the job. 

Richie Morales is a talented painter from Guatemala who honed his craft while employed in wood and construction work since childhood. Since then he has experimented with a broad range of emotions, themes, textures and materials that he integrates in his art and commitment to social justice. Last summer he visited Madison as part of an invitation extended by Centro Hispano and Dane Arts Murals Arts (DAMA). This time he is back to support the Workers’ Right Center and the Latino Workers Project in particular by donating 50% all procedures from sales of two of his series “Cicatrixes from Progress” inspired on the contribution of Latino and other labor communities to the construction of the United States of America, and “Hearts of Solidarity” a series that explores the depth and breadth of human emotions in social struggle.  Richie will also create a ‘worker’s rights’ themed mural on the exterior wall of Mother Fool’s Coffee house for the month of May.

Kae Taylor, an award-winning artist known for her drawing and batik who passed away in August 2014, was a long time WRC supporter.  She had wanted to help the WRC with an art show fundraiser so her family has offered examples of her work that will also be on display and for sale.

There will be short program at 6:00pm on May 15, with brief remarks from the artist and representatives from the Workers’ Rights Center.  The presentation will be in English and Spanish.
