press release: The Watertown Players are sending up the immortal Bard, William Shakespeare, when they present their latest original comedy production, “Romeo & Juliet For People Who Hate Shakespeare,” at their theater located in The Market, 210 S. Water St., Watertown. The show will be performed at 7:00 PM on Fri., Feb. 26 and Sat., Feb. 27. There will also be a special matinee performance at 1:00 PM on Feb. 27. “Romeo & Juliet” is being presented in the style of old-time radio and features a cast of talented local actors, each of whom brings their own special vocal talents to help create each of the characters of Shakespeare’s classic tale of star-crossed lovers. Those appearing in the show include, Jim Rollert, Mark Snider, Douglas Hoffman, Lee Loging, Jessica Walworth, Matt Emerson, Jim Powell, Dale Van Holten, Rita Nolte, Diana Bessel, Jennie Ortega, Linda Ewert and Steve Schleicher. Musical accompaniment will be furnished by Carol Erickson and sound effects will be handled by Dale Van Holten and Jim Steffl.
The show is being produced by Annette Weirick and directed by Bill Jannke, who also wrote the script. “This is a comedy,” said Jannke, “and anyone hoping to hear the words of the immortal Bard or hoping to find anything even remotely serious will be disappointed. We want to make people laugh!”
The production runs approximately 90 minutes and includes mock commercials as well as an installment of that popular soap opera, “Life on the Cowl Farm,” the story of a free-lance mortician and her fruitless search for love and happiness.
