media release: In her debut at the Tap Room, noted Madison poet Ronnie Hess will read some of her favorite poems from her seven poetry collections, including her latest, Eggphrasis, about raising hens in her backyard.
Ronnie Hess is a poet, essayist, and author of two culinary travel guides on Portugal and France, along with seven poetry collections. Her latest, Eggphrasis, reflects on raising backyard hens.
Canoeing a River with No Name won the Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets chapbook prize in 2018. Originally from New York, she pursued graduate studies in history at UW-Madison before a career in broadcast journalism, working for Wisconsin Public Radio, CBS News in New York and Paris, and later Minnesota and Chicago Public Radio. She also freelanced for A&E’s American Justice series. At UW-Madison, she directed communications for the Division of International Studies and taught middle school English in France during a sabbatical. Hess has served on various literary boards and twice received the Kay W. Levin Prize for short non-fiction. She lives in Madison.
