RSVP for Imagine Madison
press release: Mark your calendars for IMAGINE MADISON on Tuesday, October 25, AFFW's Annual Fundraising Event at the Monona Terrace will feature Valerie Daniels Carter, co-founder, president and C.E.O. of V&J Holding Companies, Milwaukee and the first African-American woman elected to the board of the Green Bay Packers. The evening will open and close with performances by First Wave, a Spoken Word performance group based at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
The First Wave performers are part of the Hip Hop Arts Learning Community, a multicultural artistic program for incoming students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. It is the first university program in the country centered on urban arts, spoken word and hip-hop culture. It is administered by the Office of Multicultural Arts Initiatives (OMAI).
The First Wave program brings together young artists from across the U.S and beyond to share an opportunity to live, study and create together in a close-knit campus community. First Wave has developed an international reputation. We are honored to have them bring their verbal artistry to make a special evening with A Fund For Women even more special.
In 1982, Valerie Daniels-Carter started V&J Foods with a single Burger King restauarant. Within sixteen years, she nurtured the company into a 137-unit, multibrand operation. Her key beliefs are integrity, recognition, accountability, responsibilitiy, respect, communication, commitment to excellence and passion. Dr. Daniels-Carter is recognized by Essence Magazine as one of the 50 most admired African-Americans in the United States as well as a Top 10 Black Female Entrepreneur.
