Run with the Cops

Students, Special Olympics athletes and community members will “Run with the Cops” on Thursday, October 1, 2015 in Platteville. This unique 5K night run/1K kids run will raise funds for Special Olympics Wisconsin athletes.  

The event kicks off with registration, coffee and donuts at 6:00 p.m. at the University of Wisconsin Platteville’s Markee Pioneer Student Center. The 1K run begins at 7:30 p.m. Local favorites, Pioneer Pete and the Sparkle effects cheer team, will cheer on runners as they make their way through the course. During the 5K at 8:00 p.m., law enforcement will light up the route with red and blue lights. Glow stations will provide runners with the opportunity to accessorize with “glowing” apparel.   

“Flashing squad cars will light up this amazing night course and runners will cross the finish line “glowing” from head to toe with LED necklaces, bracelets and more!” said Special Olympics Wisconsin’s Regional Director of Development, JoEllen Graber.  

Participants need only fundraise $25 to register for this glow crazy event. Top male and female finishers will be awarded Buffalo Wild Wings and Run Away Shoes gift cards. Each runner will receive a T-shirt. Sign up at www.runwithcops.org to start collecting pledges from family, friends, neighbors, professors, employers, etc.  

From 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., participants and community members are invited to take photos with law enforcement vehicles, including the UW-Platteville Police Department, City of Platteville Police Department and other local jurisdictions within Grant County.  

Members of the UW-Platteville Police Department and Law Enforcement Torch Run® organized this event to unite the community and raise funds for Special Olympics Wisconsin.
