Sauk Prairie Day
Join us for this all day event exploring remnant prairies and restorations in the Sauk City area through talks and site tours. This free event begins at the Ruth Culver Public Library in Prairie du Sac with talks on the history, ecology, and people of the prairies by Ken Lange, Alison Duff, Curt Meine and Randy Poelma.
TPE’s brand new video “Prairie Enthusiasm” will be shown while we enjoy a light lunch provided by Sauk Prairie Conservation Alliance. After lunch we will board a school bus for guided site tours.
Our tour will start by visiting two nearby sand prairies managed by the Empire-Sauk Chapter (Schluckebier Sand Prairie, TPE owned, and Moely, where TPE holds easement) led by Rich Henderson. We will then see a prairie restoration (part of the former Badger Army Ammunition Plant) owned and managed by the Ho Chunk, led by Randy Poelma. Lastly, we will visit a hillside remnant owned by WI DNR and managed by SPCA, led by Ken Lange and Alison Duff.
