BIO:
For singer/songwriter Skylar Stecker, making music is a way to channel her unstoppable energy while showing off a jaw-dropping vocal range that’s well beyond her years. With her bright and beat-driven brand of pop—including debut single “Rooftop,” whose video’s already racked up more than 3.7 million YouTube views—Skylar lets her soulful voice soar but still gives off an infectiously sunny spirit.
Having spent the past few years sharpening her songcraft, Skylar is now gearing up for the release of a full-length debut album that reveals her natural grasp of melody and dynamic vocal presence. With Skylar serving as a co-writer for the entire album (just as she did on her debut EP Firecracker), the songs are built on hip-hop-inspired beats, electro-kissed synths, and R&B-laced grooves that never overshadow the pure passion in her lyrics and delivery.
As she gets ready to unleash the product of her tireless work with the release of her debut album, Skylar is also tapping into other talents. Along with taking on acting roles (including a recurring guest role on the Disney Channel’s top sitcom Austin and Ally), she recently tightened up her live act with a sold-out headlining show at L.A.’s Roxy Theatre. “I love letting loose onstage and getting everyone to get up and dance,” Skylar notes. “One of my favorite things is to make all the people in the audience feel like they’re part of the show.” It’s exactly that love of closeness with the crowd that makes songwriting so essential to Skylar. “I like to be a part of the entire process,” she says in discussing why it’s so crucial to come up with her own material. “When I write my own songs they feel more authentic to me. That way when I perform them, I can show my connection to the song, and people will know that this is my message.”
