media release: Soccer Mommy, the musical project of Nashville’s Sophie Allison, has made a name for herself over the last decade as one of indie’s most beloved and distinctive voices. It all began with For Young Hearts, her debut EP which was self-released on Bandcamp in 2016 prior to a wider release via Orchid Tapes later that year. The 8-track EP, which Allison wrote, recorded and performed entirely by herself in her childhood bedroom, marked the beginning of Soccer Mommy's rise, laying the foundation for the critically acclaimed albums that followed.
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of For Young Hearts, Soccer Mommy is self-releasing For Young Hearts (10th Anniversary Edition). On streaming services now, For Young Hearts (10th Anniversary Edition) includes a previously unreleased song entitled "julian (demo),", a new version of album standout "grown," as well as "you won't leave," a track from an earlier release that has never been on streaming services.
“For Young Hearts felt like the start of something for me,” Sophie Allison explains. “I can still remember going back and forth from New York and Nashville to record some of these. Without this I wouldn’t be where I am today with Soccer Mommy.”
For Young Hearts (10th Anniversary Edition) finds a young Sophie Allison with a strong sense of newfound confidence. She bridges the gap between singer-songwriter and full on performer with warm honey-like vocals, playful pop hooks, and energetic melodies. For Young Hearts (10th Anniversary Edition) doesn't just shimmer, it blooms from start to finish, and nods to a remarkable and prolific career to come.
Soccer Mommy will be touring this Fall, including a co-headline tour with long-time friend Snail Mail, and a solo tour supporting Liz Phair and Sleater-Kinney.
Following the release of her newest album Ricochet (Matador) and a tour that saw her play to sold-out rooms across North America, Snail Mail - the project of Lindsey Jordan - announced a Fall U.S. tour with co-headliner Soccer Mommy. The dates kick off on September 30 in Charlotte, NC and conclude in Greenfield, NC, on October 24.
For fans, the tour represents a long-awaited pairing of Snail Mail and Soccer Mommy, two longtime friends whose careers have grown alongside one another since they first emerged as leading voices in indie rock. This summer Snail Mail will head to Europe, The UK and Japan for both headline and festival dates.
Met with worldwide critical acclaim, Ricochet marks Snail Mail’s first album in five years. In support of the release she returned to The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon performing the single “Tractor Beam,” asserting herself as a generational songwriter with a sharpened perspective. While her early work chronicled the emotional turbulence of young love, Ricochet reveals a deeper fixation: time, mortality, and the quiet terror of watching the things you love slip away. The album’s 11 songs are steeped in introspection, anxiety, and acceptance - an acknowledgment that the world keeps turning regardless of what’s unfolding in your own small orbit.
The LP was co-produced by Jordan alongside Aron Kobayashi Ritch (Momma). Sonically, Ricochet sounds like the natural next step in Snail Mail’s small but mighty discography, building on the poised guitar parts of her 2018 Matador debut, Lush, and Valentine’s raw rock passion. Ricochet channels the Smashing Pumpkins at their sunniest and Radiohead at their most Britpop, with notes of Catherine Wheel shoegaze, Ivy power pop, and Sunny Day Real Estate emo.
While writing Ricochet, Jordan found herself drawn to art that explores the concept of life itself. The questions of artistic worth, ego, alienation, self-destruction, and failure posed by Charlie Kaufman’s 2008 film Synecdoche, New York cast a long-lasting existential shadow, while Laura Gilpin’s 1977 poem “The Two-Headed Calf” - about a young animal whose congenital condition allows it to see twice as many stars became another important touchstone.
The album’s artwork mirrors its themes. Ricochet is the first Snail Mail release not to feature Jordan’s face; instead, a spiral shell floats in a distressed blue expanse, symbolizing both inward collapse and outward infinity - the push and pull of growth, distance, and perspective.
