media release: Solitary Refinement -- Are you actually lonely when you're alone?

Solitary Refinement is an exploration and celebration of the voluntary and involuntary isolation that people with disabilities experience. The show consists of 20 monologues and short films by Kelsy Schoenhaar, Patrick O’ Hara, Heather Klinke , Steve Wyeth, Jessica Jane Witham and Heather Renken. A fast paced and light hearted look at moments of solitude, Solitary Refinement is an evening of short vignettes we can all relate to.

Encore Studio for the Performing Arts is celebrating each individual actor with a spotlight to celebrate our first show in the Martin Street Theatre!

Thanks to a $50,000 capital grant from the PRL Keystone Foundation, Encore has expanded its studio and performance space to better serve our growing repertory company and audiences. With this expansion, we are retiring the Mary Dupont Wahlers Theatre and moving fully into our newly dedicated venue: The Martin Street Theatre. Same address! New theater!

June 13-June 22 2025: Fridays at 8PM; Saturdays & Sunday at  2PM. All performances will be held at Martin Street Theatre, 1480 Martin St., Madison.

Founded in 2000, Encore Studio for the Performing Arts was the first professional theater company for people with disabilities in Wisconsin—and remains one of the few in the United States. Based in Madison, WI, Encore has been producing original works for 25 years, premiering new productions every season that center the voices and experiences of people with disabilities. Our repertory actors have performed not only at our home theater but also at conferences and events throughout Wisconsin and beyond, with many appearing in professional theater, film, and video.
