Souper Bowl
UW-Madison Habitat for Humanity’s annual Souper Bowl fundraiser offers a hearty lunch, of course, but also community and the chance to go home with a handmade ceramic bowl. You pick your bowl first (important), then eat soup (also important) served up by community notables. With music, a silent auction and sports mascots, the whole place has that cheerful midwinter we’re-in-this-together energy. It all supports affordable housing work right here in Dane County.
media release: The 30th annual Souper Bowl, a beloved Madison tradition since 1995, will be held Saturday, Feb. 7 from 11 a.m.–2 p.m. at Madison West High School. Hosted by the UW–Madison student chapter of Habitat for Humanity of Dane County, Souper Bowl has grown into the organization’s largest fundraiser, drawing more than 750 attendees and serving over 200 gallons of soup last year alone.
Guests begin the event by selecting a unique, handmade ceramic bowl from hundreds on display. Each ticket includes a meal featuring soup of choice, salad, bread, and dessert. Attendees can also enjoy lively entertainment throughout the event, including celebrity soup servers, an a capella group, the UW Marching Band, and Bucky Badger, to name a few.
Admission is $25 per meal and bowl or $50 for a family of four, which includes four meals and two handcrafted bowls. A silent auction of artistic bowls by local artists and a raffle will also be featured.
What began in 1995 with just 50 attendees has grown into a cornerstone community celebration supporting Habitat’s affordable housing efforts across Dane County.
A heartfelt thank you goes to State Farm Insurance, this year’s Souper Bowl matching sponsor. State Farm will match all Souper Bowl donations up to $10,000, doubling the impact of every contribution toward Habitat’s mission.
State Farm’s Youth Matching grant encourages campus chapters or youth groups to partner with their local Habitat affiliate to raise and match funds that support affordable housing, including home construction, repair and rehab projects. This funding is part of a $2.6 million donation to Habitat for Humanity International from State Farm to support the organization’s youth initiatives as well as creating resilient-focused housing solutions in communities across the U.S.
