This classic mystery, set aboard the luxurious and mysterious Orient Express, promises intrigue, suspense, and an unforgettable theatrical experience.
PLOT OVERVIEW
The story unfolds as the famous Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot, boards the opulent Orient Express for a much-needed break.
However, his holiday is cut short when a fellow passenger is found murdered in the middle of the night. With the train stuck in a snowdrift and nowhere for the killer to escape, Poirot must navigate a web of deceit, alibis, and red herrings to uncover the truth.
As he interrogates each passenger, secrets are revealed, and the plot thickens, leading to a breathtaking conclusion that will leave audiences on the edge of their seats.
CHARACTERS
The production features an ensemble cast with roles for five women and five to six men:
Hercule Poirot: The world-renowned Belgian detective known for his meticulous methods and keen intellect. Poirot is the central figure in the investigation, unraveling the complexities of the case with precision and charm. Male.
Monsieur Bouc: A jovial and good-hearted director of the train company, and a friend of Poirot. Bouc is enthusiastic and eager to help solve the mystery, though he often finds himself perplexed by Poirot's methods. Male.
Mary Debenham: A calm and composed governess with a seemingly straightforward background. However, her poised exterior hides deeper secrets and connections to other passengers. Female.
Hector MacQueen: The nervous and overly chatty personal assistant to the murdered tycoon, Samuel Ratchett. MacQueen's loyalty to his employer comes into question as the investigation progresses. Male.
Michel the Conductor: The diligent and observant conductor of the Orient Express. Michel's knowledge of the train and its passengers proves invaluable to Poirot's investigation. Male.
Princess Dragomiroff: An imperious Russian aristocrat with a sharp wit and a strong presence. Her regal demeanor masks a deep personal history with the victim. Female.
Greta Ohlsson: A devout and compassionate Swedish missionary with a nervous disposition. Ohlsson's gentle nature and religious convictions add a unique dimension to the ensemble of suspects. Female.
Countess Andrenyi: A stunning and sophisticated Hungarian countess. Her grace and elegance are matched by her intelligence and fortitude, making her a compelling character in the story. Female.
Helen Hubbard: A brash and talkative American widow. Mrs. Hubbard's larger-than-life personality and vivid storytelling add a touch of humor and chaos to the narrative. Female.
Colonel Arbuthnot: A stalwart and honorable British army officer. Arbuthnot's stern exterior hides a complex relationship with one of the other passengers. Male.
Ratchett: The murder victim, whose true identity and sordid past come to light as the investigation unfolds. Ratchett's sinister nature and numerous enemies make him a captivating character even in death. Male.
AUDITION DETAILS
- Dates: August 11 at 3 p.m. and August 12 at 7 p.m.
- Location: SPCT Rehearsal Barn, 550 S Bird Street, Sun Prairie
- Preparation: Auditions will consist of readings from the script
REHEARSAL DETAILS
Rehearsals will be Sunday - Thursday evenings from 6 - 9 p.m. beginning August 25. All actors will be asked to provide any conflicts prior to the audition (an email will be sent to everyone registered).
Tech Week:
The move to the performance facility will be on Saturday, September 28 during the day. All actors are strongly encouraged to keep this date open to help move the set, props and costumes and get the stage ready for tech week.
Tech Rehearsals will September 29 - October 3. With a brush-up rehearsal on October 10. No conflicts are allowed for these rehearsals.
