About Dr. Sheri Mattson: Dr. Sheri Mattson has been a professional musician performing throughout the US as well as internationally in Barbados, Belgium, England, Finland, Sweden, and Ukraine. For the past 23 years she taught double reeds in Missouri at Truman State University and then the University of Central Missouri. Besides teaching double reeds and various academic courses, Dr. Mattson regularly played in regional large ensembles and collaborated with other local professional musicians, especially in and around Kansas City.
She is an active soloist and chamber musician, most recently with the Lake Cottage Duo who have published a recording of Dutch Music for Oboe and Piano with Centaur Records.
She is also an active clinician working with woodwind students in the Midwestern region as well as internationally with students in Ukraine, Barbados, and Jamaica. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in music and physics from the University of Wisconsin – Superior, A Master of Music in oboe performance from Arizona State University and the Doctor of Music in oboe performance from Florida State University.
About Juanita Becker: Pianist Dr. Juanita Becker has an active and varied career as a collaborative and solo performer, teacher, and adjudicator. In 2019, the Lake Cottage Duo presented a lecture recital in the Bruges Concertgebouw Chamber Music Hall at the College Music Society International Conference titled “Difficult Choices under Nazi Rule: Three Composers, Two Choices.” In 2016, The Edwin Mellen Press published her biography of the Dutch composer and pianist, Henriëtte Bosmans. It has made its way into several libraries around the globe. She and oboist Dr. Sheri Mattson cofounded the Lake Cottage Duo. In 2012 their CD, Dutch Music for Oboe and Piano, was released on the Centaur label. In 2009 she was awarded a CMS Seed Grant for the Lake Cottage Duo’s community engagement programs at the Milwaukee Art Museum. At WLC Becker currently teaches piano, harpsichord, class piano, Piano Pedagogy and the general education courses Music Appreciation, Music Fundamentals, and Women in Music (starting next spring).
Becker holds degrees from the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and the Florida State University. Recipient of the Gramma Fischer Scholarship to the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria. Dr. Becker joined the faculty of Wisconsin Lutheran College in July 2001.
