Sunday Dinner
press release: A new food awareness event—Sunday Dinner—is being planned by the Rock County Historical Society, this according to Mike Reuter, Executive Director.
The new, annual event aims to bring Rock County’s agriculture community and the general public together via a farm to table feast to support the needs of Rock County’s food and agricultural education organizations. In Sunday Dinner’s first year, the Society is partnering with ECHO and FFA Janesville Craig as its 2016 food pantry and youth education partners to support the mission of both these organizations.
Come and enjoy live music by Bathtub Mothers, participate in a live auction, and purchase themed gift baskets while indulging in a 4-course meal served family style. Whet your appetite with appetizers of apples and cheese, hummus, salsa and chips. Next, savor fresh corn, beef tenderloin, ham, and homemade side dishes. Save room for homemade brownies and ice cream!
“Sunday Dinner helps to focus on a great community need: hunger,” Reuter explains. “By sharing the food heritage of Rock County and providing abundant, local food that is grown in its fields and pastures, we all can taste and appreciate all the healthy food that is around us, while raising money to support the missions of FFA Janesville Craig, ECHO and the RCHS.”
A family cookbook will be given to each family or individual that contain the Sunday Dinner recipe, along with other local meals, both past and present that embody the food heritage of Rock County. Histories and summaries of four “food families” will be showcased along with narratives of the event’s food partners.
Sunday Dinner will be on Sunday, September 18th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on the north lawn of the RCHS campus in the shadow of the Lincoln-Tallman House. The cost will be $40 per adult and $15 for children under 10 years of age.
The Society is working with over a dozen farm families, food businesses, chefs and food-based nonprofits to help stem the food needs of Rock County, while honoring the rich food heritage of the past.
