Starting in 2012, Sweet Delta Dawn has been a staple in the Madison jam community ever since. Together, they tell a futuristic tale of American life with a wholesome blend of the past. Covering a variety of folk, classic rock, jazz, funk, and modern music alongside a multicultural mix of rhythms, their music creates a platform for people to feel free and expressive. Heavily inspired by bands like The Grateful Dead, Phish, The Beatles, The Allman Brothers Band, and Pink Floyd, Sweet Delta Dawn brings miles of smiles everywhere they go. Sweet Delta Dawn is a four-piece rock ensemble from Madison consisting of a talented group of musicians/songwriters. Sweet Delta Dawn is Tyler Willenbrink on drums and vocals, Jeff Clarke on bass and lead vocals, Jack Peterson on guitar and vocals, and Jay Vollberg on keyboards and vocals. “You will LOVE Sweet Delta Dawn!” raves The Frequency.
Spoken of by fans as “an awesome local band,” Sweet Delta Dawn brings good energy, mind-bending vibrations, and fun times to EVERY show! Sweet Delta Dawn’s appearances include festivals such as The Family Gathering, who called the band "another one of our great acts,” as well as Toodeloo Music Festival, who recommends you “Get up to speed with some Sweet Delta Dawn!" Sweet Delta Dawn has also performed at Downtown Madison’s “Live & Local” event two years in a row, The 46th & 47th Annual Great Midwest Marijuana Harvest Festival, NORML’s annual 420 Fest, Grateful Friends Festival, Grateful Garcia Gathering, Bubble Music Festival, Rage Fest, Make Music Madison, Portal Music Festival, and hosted events and concerts at dozens of different local and regional music venues including The Orpheum Theater, The Brink Lounge, The High Noon Saloon, The Frequency, Fire On Water, George’s Tavern, The Showboat Saloon and many more. In addition to all of these shows, Sweet Delta Dawn has held a monthly residency at The Frequency nightclub for over 2 years called “Hippy Hideout”. The residency, presented by WIJAM and Knuckleheads, has turned it into the premier monthly Jam Band event in the state capitol thanks to Sweet Delta Dawn . “Freaky fun for all with Sweet Delta Dawn,” says Hippy Hideout co-host FlowPoetry.
In keeping with the spirit of The Grateful Dead, Sweet Delta Dawn jams from one song into the next and then back again. Seamlessly blending songs together throughout a setlist, to invoke a unique musical experience with each performance. Often, like The Dead, they leave room for exploratory, textural, spacey soundscapes. “One amazing musical tapestry,” states The Brink Lounge. Sweet Delta Dawn bassist and lead vocalist Jeff Clarke says, “We LOVE The Grateful Dead!” “They’ve paved the way and helped create a scene where Jam Bands like us can flourish. They’ve had a positive influence on so much, not only in music, but in the world. It’s 50 years later and they’re still jamming, it really is a beautiful thing. We want people to feel the way that music makes all of us feel. We hope to see YOU at the show!!!
