The Airborne Toxic Event
$30 ($25 adv.). Moved yet again, to 2022.
media release: The Airborne Toxic Event shared a new single. “Faithless,” available now at all DSPs and streaming services.
A powerful song about getting lost in a world of hopeless outcomes, “Faithless” marks the first new music from the Los Angeles-based band since 2020’s critically acclaimed album, HOLLYWOOD PARK.
“‘Faithless’ is a song about trying to believe in something in a world telling you to believe in nothing,” says Airborne Toxic Event founder and frontman Mikel Jollett, “getting lost in a world of hopeless outcomes and trying to find connection with others, or if you can't, a new place to lose yourself.”
The Airborne Toxic Event is set to finally embark on their epic Hollywood Park Tour, beginning March 22 at The Van Buren in Phoenix, AZ and then traveling North America through October. Much of the tour – including shows in Washington, DC, Philadelphia, Chicago, Vancouver, Seattle, and San Diego – is already sold out, with limited ticket availability for the remaining dates. Notably, the band will be playing The Beacon Theatre in New York and finishing the tour with a hometown show at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. Support on all dates through April 30 comes from Mondo Cozmo. For updates and more, please visit www.
The Airborne Toxic Event’s sixth LP, HOLLYWOOD PARK arrived alongside an extraordinary literary work of the same name by Mikel Jollett, available now from Celadon Books, a division of MacMillan; the paperback edition arrives on Tuesday, March 22. Hollywood Park: A Memoir sees Jollett chronicling his extraordinary personal journey, from his early childhood in one of the most infamous cults of the 1970s, through a childhood of poverty and emotional abuse, before finding his voice as an artist among the confusion of an adult life spent nursing the wounds of childhood, and the redemption which came from looking inward and an acceptance of self and the fierce love of family.
Celadon Books recently announce the Hollywood Park Book Tour, a series of eight in-person events – in tandem with the Hollywood Park Tour – where Jollett will discuss Hollywood Park, answer reader questions, and sign copies of the critically acclaimed book. Tickets will be sold in limited capacity and include the new paperback edition.
Hollywood Park: A Memoir made its debut at #8 on the New York Times Best Seller List amidst a wave of critical applause. “A shocking but contemplative memoir about the aftermath of an unhealthy upbringing,” declared Publishers Weekly in a starred-review. “Jollett also talks about turning pain into music, getting help for abandonment issues, and finding love and starting a family.” O The Oprah Magazine named Hollywood Park among “The 30 Most Anticipated Books of 2020 (So Far),” writing, “The frontman of rock band Airborne Toxic Event chronicles, in gorgeous and exacting lyricism, his harrowing coming-of-age within (and eventual escape from) the Church of Synanon, a violent religious cult.” “Dangerous, immediate and lyrical from the jump,” wrote the Wall Street Journal, while ABC’s Good Morning America included Hollywood Park: A Memoir in its own “20 Books We’re Excited For In 2020,” writing, “What comes through the pages is a story of fierce love and family loyalty. This moving and profound memoir is for anyone who loves a good redemption story.”
HOLLYWOOD PARK made its own explosive chart debut, entering among the top 5 on Billboard’s “Top Alternative Albums” and the top 10 on “Top Rock Albums.” Produced and mixed by the band’s longtime collaborator, multiple GRAMMY® Award-nominee Mark Needham (The Killers, Fleetwood Mac), the album serves as both companion volume and musical soundtrack to Jollett’s remarkable memoir, adding vivid sonic color to his wrenching and ultimately life-affirming personal chronicle. Indeed, both the album and book were fueled in large part by the untimely death of Jollett’s father. Devastated to his very core, he withdrew from both the world and his work for nearly a year before ultimately finding the strength to begin anew.
The Airborne Toxic Event is: Mikel Jollett (guitars, vocals), Steven Chen (guitars, keyboards), Darren Taylor (drums), Adrian Rodriguez (bass), and Mimi Peschet (violin).
