The Conscious Community: Supporting Success of All Children
Bethany United Methodist Church 3910 Mineral Point Rd. , Madison, Wisconsin 53705
press release: The Playing Field will present The Conscious Community, a 2 day event featuring an evening open house and fundraiser on Friday October 16 and training seminars on Saturday, October 17, at Bethany United Methodist Church, 3910 Mineral Point Road.
On Friday, October 16, hear an inspirational message from Donna Porter, a Kennedy Center Award-winning teacher renowned for her work with Conscious Discipline, and her former student DJ Batiste, a Conscious Discipline success story. Porter and Batiste will address reasons why traditional discipline methods, including suspension and expulsion, are not effective in reaching our at-risk students. They will offer practical solutions and share their unique perspective on the potential impact of one properly trained teacher. Tour our new classrooms, meet our teachers and staff and be part of something great. The Friday night open house and fundraiser is free admittance. Food donated by The Great Dane.
On Saturday, October 17th from 9:00 to 3:00, teachers and parents are invited to a training presented by Donna Porter, Angela Fraley, Kay Zastrow and Abbi Kruse, all certified Conscious Discipline trainers. Saturday training is $50 for teachers and $100 for parents. No deadline but prefer pre-registration. Sign-up available onsite.
These two events will help change the lives of our youngest and most vulnerable citizens. We ask for your financial support and your presence at one or both of these special events.
Homelessness is becoming too common for Madison area children and families. Though working, families are unable to secure both housing and child care. The Playing Field is a child care and early education center in Madison, where children experiencing homelessness play and learn alongside children from more advantaged backgrounds. We are committed to caring for and educating children in the context of our community.

The Playing Field has recently opened an early education program for children from varied socio-economic backgrounds, including those experiencing homelessness. Though children may be without a home, they are not without a community.
