media release: Atlas Improv Co. is proud to present the return of the live, improvised reality competition show, The Cut, plus a brand new aftershow, The Cut: After Dark. This 6-week run of shows begins on Friday, October, 11 at 7pm. A crop of amateur improvisers will compete for a spot on the roster of Atlas Improv Co. Afterward at 9pm, Atlas premieres a new late night special, The Cut: After Dark.
The final round on Nov. 15 features Chelsey Gonzalez, Grace Murray, and Zekky Al-Marayati.
The Cut is a live, on-stage reality competition that’s an exciting night out for the whole family. The Cut combines the spontaneous laughs of improv with all the excitement you’d expect from a reality competition program. Throughout the series, a panel of expert improv judges provide critique and the audience votes to influence the show. At the end of each week, the audience and judges eliminate one improviser from the competition. In the final week, only one contestant will stand victorious and be offered a spot in the professional company of Atlas Improv.
“The Cut is one of our favorite shows to produce each year,” says Steve Wyeth, host of The Cut. “This season, we’re shaking things up a bit with the format. We’re taking bigger risks with the challenges, and it will be a real test for our contestants that will keep the audience on the edge of their seats.”
Immediately following The Cut at 9pm is a brand new aftershow, intended for a more mature late night audience. In The Cut: After Dark, Atlas Improv’s professional improvisers will take on their own lower-stakes but higher difficulty improv competition for much sillier prizes. Tickets for The Cut will include complimentary admission for The Cut: After Dark for those who wish to stay for both shows. A ticket for just the 9 pm show is $7.
“The Cut: After Dark is a great follow-up to The Cut,” says Atlas Improv Artistic Director, Dan Row. “After Dark will build on the themes of each week’s Cut episode with a unique set of challenges for our cast of professional improvisers.”
Tickets for episode one of The Cut and After Dark can be purchased starting on October 1 by visiting TheCutShow.com. Tickets are $11 for general admission or $7 for students. Doors for The Cut open at 6:20 p.m. on Fridays, starting October 11 at 609 E Washington Ave. in Madison. Atlas Improv holds regular shows every Friday and Saturday at 7pm and 9pm.
