press release: President Obama nominated Chief Judge Merrick Garland to the U.S. Supreme Court more than 200 days ago. The Republican Senate Majority has refused to hold a hearing on Garland’s nomination or to schedule a floor vote on his confirmation. Senator Baldwin has helped lead the charge to put politics aside and move forward with considering Garland’s nomination.
The Garland nomination is just one facet of our national judicial vacancy crisis. Americans are seeing justice delayed, as there simply aren’t enough judges to hear important cases. There are 108 current and future judicial vacancies across the country. Two of those vacancies are here in Wisconsin, including a Wisconsin seat on the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals and a seat in the Eastern District of Wisconsin.
ACS members around the nation are working at the grassroots level to address the judicial vacancy crisis at all levels of the judiciary so that everyone who needs it will get their day in court. Please RSVP to pguequierre@acslaw.org.
