The Great Eye in the Desert: Radio Astronomy with the Very Large Array
UW Space Place 2300 S. Park St., Suite LL-100, Madison, Wisconsin
Guest Presentation at Space Place
Tuesday, June 14, 7:00 pm, 2300 S. Park Street in the lower level of the Atrium
by Claire Murray, UW-Madison Dept. of Astronomy
The Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) is one of the most advanced radio telescopes on Earth. Over the course of its 36-year lifetime, the VLA has provided crucial insights into the nature of radio galaxies, supernova remnants, planetary systems and interstellar gas throughout the cosmic time. Claire will discuss the history of the VLA and some of its major discoveries, as well as future plans for a "next generation" VLA telescope.
