The Mattson 2
Mattson 2 is a jazz duo of twin brothers Jonathan and Jared, who in August released their interpretation of the late, great John Coltrane's ground-breaking album A Love Supreme. Their take on the epic "Resolution" is drenched in synths and reverb, and they deftly energize the influential music with electric guitar solos and a wild rhythm section. Melodic pop act Astronauts, etc. opens.
press release: SoCal jazz duo The Mattson 2 (twin brothers Jonathan and Jared Mattson) are releasing Mattson 2 Play A Love Supreme, their full album cover of John Coltrane's 1964 masterpiece, on August 17. Today, the band shared a video for their version "Resolution." Stereogum premiered the clip in their Ugly Beauty jazz column, writing, "Their work blends jazz fusion, psychedelia, and a surprising element of surf music, allowing them to appeal to jazz fans and jam-band hippies alike."
"Resolution" by Mattson 2
Astronauts, etc. -- Oakland's Anthony Ferraro -- just released his epic new album Living In Symbol on his Toro y Moi bandmate Chaz Bear's label Company Records.
PRAISE FOR LIVING IN SYMBOL:
"A thoughtful, gentle project whose soul-plucking instrumentation will put you right in your feelings." - The Fader
"The music is mostly gentle and delicate in tone, layered with Ferraro's soft, falsetto voice, while the overall themes on the record explore the strangeness of the Information Age and serve as an ode to ambiguity and the future." - KCRW
"Songs offer a gentle, clever contrast: Ferraro sings of the strangeness of the Information Age, floating between his trademark falsetto and a lower Lee Hazlewood-like croon." - Hype Machine
"There's a refined nature to Ferraro's delivery, alongside 70's soul and 60's tropicalia vibes." - Paste
"'The Room' is a lilting, exotica-tinged waltz, its dreamy weightlessness and lush instrumentation transporting us out of place and time." - Gorilla Vs. Bear
