The Poets of Tin Pan Alley
Verona Library 500 Silent St., Verona, Wisconsin 53593
press release: Coming soon to a library near you, “The Poets of Tin Pan Alley” brings to life the Great American Songbook through the work of four leading lyricists of the era: Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Lorenz Hart, and Ira Gershwin. Inspired by the work of Philip Furia, author of The Poets of Tin Pan Alley: A History of America’s Great Lyricists, the program will introduce you to the songsmiths of Tin Pan Alley and highlight the poetry they crafted that made the world sing.
This hour-long program features a quartet of some of the best local singers bringing you well-loved standards like “Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered,” “Night and Day,” “Blue Skies,” and many more. You will not only enjoy wonderful music, but you will learn about the lives of these Broadway poets and their lyric-writing methods. For those in the audience who like to sing, there may even be an opportunity to join the performers in belting out a Tin Pan Alley tune.
This program is produced with support from the Beyond the Page program, a joint effort of the Dane County Library Service and the Madison Community Foundation to create a permanent endowment that will support expanded humanities programming in all 28 public libraries in Dane County. The Beyond the Page program is supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Madison Community Foundation.
