The Sixties Revisited
to
Overture Center-Playhouse Gallery 201 State St., Madison, Wisconsin 53703
This colorful exhibition features the work of 35 contributors, most of them from Dane County, and includes a collage by Richard Ely and Martin Saunders made from the decade’s iconic album covers. “It was up to the artists, intellectuals and hippie generation of the Sixties to explore the cultural implications of [post-war complacency],” says contributing artist John Riggs. “Madison in the 1960s was a Midwest way station between San Francisco … and Greenwich Village for this tidal wave of rebellion, new thought and cultural evolution.” Dressing in ’60s garb is optional but encouraged at the reception for the exhibit (6-8 pm, June 13), which continues through June 24.
