The Way Down Wanderers, Wrenclaw
Folk rock. $10 ($8 adv.; ages 18+).
The Way Down Wanderers' new album was recorded at Sonic Ranch in Texas, produced by The Avett Brothers' Mike Marsh, engineered by Grammy Award winning Jerry Ordonez and mixed by multiple-Grammy winner Neil Cappellino, and also includes appearances by Michael Duchette (accordion on "Silver Days") and Old Crow Medicine Show's Critter Fuqua.
Crave Online says it well: "Leading with soul is quick validation of authenticity, as true passion is nearly impossible to synthesize. That’s part of what makes The Way Down Wanderers such a refreshing listen - their propulsive rhythms and rich harmonies expand upon the folk Americana thrust of their sound, evidenced in full on their eponymous debut album."
And Elmore: "The Way Down Wanderers isn’t just a catchy band name. Though the five young men hail from Peoria, Ill., wandering is a part of who they are—sonically, through folk and indie into the heart of bluegrass, emotionally, exploring themes of love, loss, anticipation and frustration and geographically, journeying across the country, not quite ready to put down roots."
