Local artist Ferrella's show, The Illusion of Permanence, on display at the Marzen Gallery through May 6, features sculptures made from burnt wood and found objects, and oil portraits of insects. It's a typically untypical collection from an artist who refuses to be pigeonholed; Ferrella thoughtfully looks at people, other animals and the environment but never separates one from the other.

Join Marzen, fine art showroom of Integrated Art Group, for The Illusion of Permanence, a solo show of artwork by Wisconsin artist, Thomas Ferrella. Ferrella explores a variety of artistic mediums, including photography, music, video, painting, large scale installations, and sculpture. The Illusion of Permanence features a collection of exquisitely painted sculptures made of burnt wood and found objects paired with intimate oil painted insect portraits on metal. Social and environmental causes are at the root of Ferrella’s work, and such is the case with The Illusion of Permanence. Though this selection of work was motivated by a desire to create something visually beautiful, a closer inspection reveals underlying themes of environmental decimation and Samsara, the circle of life.
